I am a big softie who adores all types of pets. My three dogs are just fantastic, but they have a habit of using their dog doors all the time.

Now to make sure this marathon of dog activity runs smoothly in our household every single day we have got two pet flaps installed into our house.

The trouble is though that it seems that the doors just keep on breaking every 4-6 months what with all the hard use they get. So what do I do? I have to go out and buy pet door replacement flaps for them. Oh yes.

So I end up going down to the pet store to buy new flaps. Ironically he knows me by first name now as I’m down there all the time, spending a small fortune of my three dogs..

Jim, the store owner laughs when I tell him why I am here, again. he knows right where to go, and gets the parts for me without even asking which ones. If it wasn’t for my dogs enjoying a game called chase the butteflies then perhaps I wouldn’t have to come down here so often.

So after parting with over $40, Jim sells me the flaps and go on my way. It would be nice though if the flaps lived just a little bit longer.

The main problem is that they wear too quickly. The hinges start to fail through all their repeated use, and often break or crack rendering them useless or poor performing.

Funnily enough, my dogs tend to enjoy the taste and sensation of chewing on the flaps.

Once they’ve been chewed they let in the cold air and a very poor flap. This then means the flaps start to rattle in the wind, and this really isn’t funny at night time.

We once tried switching to magnetic flaps, but found that once they wear (the cheap ones anyway), the noise they make when they rattle is far louder and more annoying,

Because of the cold drafts, the dogs prefer to come and stay in our room at night. Not really ideal though.

Annoyingly, one of our neighbors dogs comes into the house, eats our dogs food and then proceeds to leave his mark all over the place.

So really in a nutshell we have been living with inconveniences for the past few years, until recently.

More recently we have researched modern brands, especially modern brands which are more expensive and have lot’s of exciting features.

This has actually inspired us to look at things in a new light, and because of this we strongly recommend you consider a well known brand for yourself.
